Join award winning and internationally acclaimed choreographers, Alleyne Dance (Kristina and Sadé Alleyne) for a brand new large-scale outdoor performance work, as part of Lewisham’s year as London Borough of Culture 2022.
Close to Home will see a cast of hundreds of dancers of all ages weave together real-life stories of migration, community, activism, history and the people of Lewisham through movement and music.
Constructed with members of Lewisham’s community at its heart, local community groups including Lewisham Mencap and Queens Walking Group, primary and secondary school pupils, and university students will be joined by a cohort of professional dancers for a truly inclusive and joyous exploration of what the notions of home and belonging mean to those in Lewisham.
Following months of rehearsals, join us for a spectacular performance and a day of celebration on the grounds of Sedgehill Academy in Beckenham. As well as a chance to watch the performance, there will be opportunities to purchase food, drink, crafts & merchandise, enjoy music from the Wuntanara Drumming Circle and make the most of the fun, festival atmosphere.
You can get involved by watching the Learn at Home instruction video, part of We Are Lewisham’s Creative Challenges – there might even be a chance to jump up from your seat and join in during the performance.
