Filmed on the set of MOS at the Barbican, this in-depth exploration offers a behind-the-scenes look at her groundbreaking production, which captivated audiences at Dance Umbrella Festival 2023.
Known for her interdisciplinary approach, Paraskevopoulou explores the interplay between movement, sound, and imagery. MOS – which stands for “Mute Out Sound” – draws inspiration from foley artists, the experts behind the everyday sound effects in film and television. Using unexpected objects such as umbrellas, plungers and coconut shells, she transforms the stage into a cinematic soundscape. The performers generate audio in real time, turning tap numbers into recordings that are looped, distorted, paused and intensified, blurring the lines between dance and sound design.
With her past collaborations including work with Dimitris Papaioannou, Paraskevopoulou continues to push the boundaries of performance art. In this insightful film, she shares how she crafted MOS, giving audiences an intimate glimpse into the mechanics of movement, rhythm and sound.
