We’re asking dancers to submit a one minute dance film in their favourite location of the city they are based in. These dance films will create the digital exhibition displayed on billboards in Leicester, Leeds, Newcastle and London, for the countdown of Let’s Dance International Frontiers 2023 (LDIF23), the Midlands’ leading dance festival. Whether you’re a local student, dance artist or non-dancer, we want you to share your favourite dance styles or techniques to inspire and move people.

The chosen videos will be a part of two aspects of the Black Digital Dance Revolution project:

  • LDIF23 (1 April – 7 May 2023) they will feature as part of a campaign across digital poster sites in the four partner cities
  • Digital Week (6-12 November 2023) where all submitted dance films will be edited into one larger dance film

How to apply

Fill in the application form

Applications close Sunday 26 March

Dance film submission must:

  • Be one minute in length
  • Be filmed in portrait
  • International submissions welcome
  • Be completed at the time of submission
  • Has not been used for any other public piece of work before or share what you have filmed until after Sunday 7 May 2023, on any media platforms.
  • Be appropriate for a public audience
  • Consent for Serendipity’s use of your dance film

To be eligible you must be at least 18 years of age.

There will be an honorarium payment for those dance films that have been selected.

By submitting a dance film for consideration to Creative Space in a Digital Domain, the filmmaker grants Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage the right to screen the film prior, throughout and after the festival as stated in the capacity above. Serendipity will never upload a completed film to the Internet without the filmmakers consent.

Black Dance Digital Revolution is a nationally significant project working with regional partners; Serendipity (Leicester), Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds), Dance City (Newcastle), Dance Umbrella (London) and beyond to draw upon the dance heritage within these four cities.
