DJ and video artist Letizia Renzini teams up with choreographer Marina Giovannini and musician/vocalist Sabina Meyer in this, the first ENPARTS commission.

The relationship between man and automaton has fascinated dance makers and audiences since Coppélia first captured imaginations 140 years ago. Inspired by Ernst Lubitsch’s silent film Die Puppe, and incorporating footage from the original masterpiece, La Bambola di Carne (The Doll of Flesh) explores ideas of identity and desire referencing E. T. A. Hoffman’s original story.

Moving images, physical bodies, voices and music combine in an ironic, dramatic and distinctly feminine synthesis.

Dance Umbrella is a partner in ENPARTS (European Network for Performing Arts), a network of seven European dance, theatre and music festivals led by La Biennale di Venezia and funded by the European Union to co-produce a series of multi-disciplinary arts projects over the next five years.
